Elysium, the debut novel by Jennifer Marie Brissett, is in one respect an ambitious work. Like many such projects, it succeeds on some levels and others not so much, though not for wont of trying. The long reach itself is noteworthy, though in this case the fruit of total success lies just beyond the author’s grasp.
