"Wrack" by Amanda Downum

"Wrack" by Amanda Downum is a nicely presented fable, a typical fairy-tale about star-crossed lovers, one a sailor, the other an alluring sea creature.  While this type of story is nothing new, Downum focuses more on the tragic circumstances surrounding the pair and on developing her fully-rounded characters.

Possibly the only criticism could be the disjointed feel of the story as it skips ahead in time.  One of these jumps could be forgiveable, but it happens too often.  This shouldn’t interrupt the reading of her tale, but it is a slight annoyance.

All in all a fine effort, and the artwork accompanying this piece is a real treat.  Enjoy!
