“Moondog” by Rabbit Sullivan

Reviewed by Victoria Silverwolf

“Moondog” by Rabbit Sullivan takes place on the Moon and features characters wearing spacesuits, but isn’t really science fiction. This version of the Moon has plants, animals, and a lake of liquid diamond. The narrator kills the animals named in the title for meat and fur, has sex with the only other survivor of their doomed mission, and struggles to place a bulldozer on top of a huge rock.

Mostly an interior monologue by the narrator, revealing a disturbed state of mind, this surreal work is formless and episodic. It begins with a long and detailed description of the killing of moondogs, which many readers are likely to find distasteful.

Victoria Silverwolf did a pretty good amount of exercising today.
