“Devil in the Rain” by D. G. P. Rector
Reviewed by Victoria Silverwolf
In “Devil in the Rain” by D. G. P. Rector, a convent of nuns on a mining planet takes in a wounded cyborg warrior, despite the possibility that he might prove a danger to them. His presence leads to a bloody battle with his enemies, during which he shows his true nature.
Despite the magazine’s stated purpose of offering speculative fiction with Christian themes, the fact that many of the characters are nuns is of little importance to the plot. They could easily be secular health workers. Readers of military science fiction will best enjoy this violent story. Others will at least appreciate the author’s ability to create a vivid high-tech background.
Victoria Silverwolf wishes it would rain more.
