“Das Steingeschöpf” by G. V. Anderson
Reviewed by Benjamin Wheeler
Oppression metaphors abound in “Das Steingeschöpf” by G. V. Anderson. Hertzel is commissioned to repair a Steingeschöpf by the name of Ambroise and must face his feelings for comrades and his world. Much of the quality of this piece comes from the description of the golem-like ‘Steingeschöpf’ and the oppressive atmosphere. The rest of the story is a young man’s feeling for a comrade who was slain by Nazis. That part is hit or miss.
