“Next Draft of the Future” by Dave Pell
Reviewed by Eric Kimminau
“Next Draft of the Future” by Dave Pell is intended to be a look at what will be happening across the Internet five years into the future (A.D. 2020). The vast majority of this story is so tongue in cheek that it is difficult to discern which “predictions” are intended to be serious and which are a humorous attempt to comment on the continued degradation of society. With the expectation that it is tongue in cheek, I believe the humor in some cases succeeds. As a comment on society and as far as potentially accurate predictions on Internet technology five years from today, I believe the author has overreached on the majority of his predictions and for several has gone so far over the line of potential and/or believability (Trump being the Ambassador to ISIS? Really?) that the mark has been missed, but I could certainly be proven wrong. I really just found this to be an hour that is now in my past that I‘ll never have returned.
