“They Were Wonderful, Once” by Lily Watson
We get a glance into the world of the near future, which is no longer ruled by humans, though they are kept in captivity (very well deserved, if you ask me). The whole story is overwhelmed with nostalgia, with some well-presented weirdness and vivid imagery.
“Interstate Mohinis” by M.L. Krishnan
This story employs a very special, unique narration embedded within its urban fantasy tale. I had to look up some of the Hindu terms and foods heavily influencing the story, but they actually made the setting more vivid and sensual. Even though the storyline might be familiar from the movies, the specific story-telling itself made me like and connect to the demon protagonist (and its unsavory ability) at the end.
