Kai leads tourists on a trip up the mountains of the Monkey King. “The Monkey King Sleeps” by Su-Yee Lin tells of his terrible fate. This story reads more like a poem or a stream of consciousness piece. It’s easy to read Kai’s life and motivations, but it’s hard to conclude a story on these terms.
