“The Golden Carrot” by K. S. Shere

Reviewed by Mike Bickerdike

“The Golden Carrot” by K. S. Shere is a very short medieval-era fantasy tale, in which villagers pull up golden vegetables and gems among their normal harvested crops. Essentially flash fiction, the story takes a look at the value of different commodities, and questions intrinsic value. The theme and general idea are not especially novel, of course, and the tale is too short to develop the characters or any dramatic tension.
