“Dreams In Burnished Silver” by Christine Hanolsy is a story of dream weavers who are women and of the men whose designs are mirrors of reality. The women weave their designs at night, by moonlight. The men use mirrors to reflect reality in the light of day. The two groups pass each other in the twilight of dusk and dawn, never stopping. One woman and man meet in passing and become connected by a silver thread woven by the woman. It is a love story and the prose is ethereal.
“We Are All Strange Ones Here” by Sally Sultzman. This tale evokes the myth of changelings while contrasting the personalities of two very different people. The husband and father, Allain, is extroverted and he desires his daughter to be the same. His wife (unnamed in the story which is in 1st person by her) is introverted and does not like to be touched. Her daughter, Jen, is the same and both are on the autistic spectrum. The story is about the narrator’s quest to find her original daughter and to be herself. Emotional, evocative, and the story lingers long after it is read.
