“Wing” by Amal El-Mohtar

Reviewed by Chuck Rothman

Strange Horizons’ offering for December 17 is a short fable. “Wing” describes a girl who wears a book around her neck — a book that contains a secret — and the story shows her interactions with several others who wonder about it. Finally, she meets a boy who has a story to tell her. Amal El-Mohtar has a way with images and a poetic sense of language that sustains the story. It’s slight, but touched with a little bit of magic.

[Editor’s Note: There is no story for Dec. 24th. Next scheduled story is Dec. 30th.]
